XIII International Conference „Education of the 21st century"
"Pathologies of the 21st century education; Ideology, politics, bureaucracy”

The main theme of this year’s conference on „Education of the 21st century” will be „Pathologies of the 21st century education; Ideology, politics, bureaucracy”.

Education is a key area for the social development of individuals, therefore its functioning is crucial. Unfortunately, nowadays there are multiple pathologies plaguing the education system in Poland. Among them are: harmful influence of various ideologies, despite the declaration of schools that they are free of them, increased bueraucracy of the education, resulting in teachers/educators have increasingly less time to teach/educate and the influence of politics on the education system.

We invite researchers and theorists from various disciplines as well as practicioners of education in various areas of life. We hope that this event will contribute to a better recognition of pathologies of today’s education system and will help in fighting them.

Spectre of themes of the conference

1. Ideology and education

  • Traditional and contemporary educational ideologies and examples of their realisation in the education system
  • The impact of ideology on education in schools; passing on and keeping specific values – school as a site of recreating, keeping and passing on of ideologies to the next generations
  • Gender and sexuality – ideological battlefield
  • Teacher and student – subjects and objects of ideology
  • Educational forms of resistance against dominant ideologies
 
2. Politics and education

  • The influence of politics and political interest groups on shaping educational programmes in schools
  • The conceptions of a political „involvement” of education
  • The place of education in the process of political upbringing
 
3. BUREAUCRATIZATION OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEM

  • Increasing bureaucratization of the school system; standardization of actions, introduction of procedures, increased reporting and its influence on the quality of education
  • School reforms – hope and scepticism?
  • Ways of limiting the bureaucracy of the school system
  • Modern technologies and a bureaucratic education system
 

4. Workshop and training sessions combined with sessions relating to the pathologies of education.
